On the 20th of July Anna Sebastian Perayil lost her life to a heart attack seemingly caused by stress at the workplace. She had joined multinational consultancy firm EY’s Pune office in March this year. There have been similar deaths across India in recent months, all owing to workplace toxicity. Little wonder then that India ranks second when it comes to extended working hours per week this year. News9 Plus explores the menace of the silent white collar killer in corporate India.

In just two years the global average employee tenure has decreased from 4.5 years to 4.2 years. The global turnover rate has risen to approximately 20% in 2024, up from 18% in 2023. The need for speed in career advancement and success is more than it has ever been…result: a toxic workplace. The buck stops with the top leadership and it all boils down to what they can to do manage overriding ambitions of their employees while cultivating a positive work environment.
