Hashim Safi Al Din, born in 1964 in southern Lebanon, is a senior Lebanese Shia cleric and the de facto second-in-command within Hezbollah. He is the most likely person to succeed Nasrallah. What has also bolstered the chances of his succession are his family connections. He is Hassan Nasrallah’s maternal cousin. Not just that, his son Reza Hashem is married to Zainab, the daughter of former Quds Force commander Qassem Soleimani.
