(Partnered) 'Revitalizing the Heart of Himalayas' is an inspiring AkzoNobel initiative aimed at transforming the remote Spiti Valley communities. Located over 15,000 feet above sea level, the villages of Kaza, Komic, Hikkim, and Langza face extreme winters and limited resources. The region, known for its ancient Buddhist culture and breathtaking landscapes, also struggles with deteriorating buildings due to harsh weather conditions. Dulux Paints launched the 'Let’s Colour' campaign to protect the area’s structures and revitalise the community’s spirit. Over 20 painters used more than 10,500 litres of Dulux Weathershield paints to cover 300,000 square feet, including homes, schools, monasteries, cafes, and homestays. The colour scheme, chosen for its Buddhist symbolism, includes red for blessings, white for purity, and blue for compassion. This transformation also preserved cultural landmarks such as the 900-year-old Tangyud Monastery in Komic and the world’s highest post office in Hikkim. Murals depicting native species like the snow leopard were painted to boost tourism and celebrate local wildlife. This collaborative effort not only brightened the villages but also ensured the preservation of Spiti’s unique culture and environment for future generations.
