How Feasible is One Nation, One Election?

Due to the ethnic, linguistic and geographical diversity of the country, the proposal may run into challenges at the logistics, finance and legal levels. While the BJP claims that this synchronisation would reduce time and manpower. the opposition alleges it is an attempt to ‘nationalise’ elections. In other words, simultaneous polls are likely to favour larger political parties with a national presence while disproportionately affecting smaller regional parties. Then, there is the cost factor.
