CRPF is Set to Replace Two Battalions of Assam Rifles in Hill Districts of Manipur

Published On: August 02, 2024 - The CRPF is set to replace two Assam Rifles battalions in Manipur's Churachandpur and Kangpokpi hill districts, according to media reports. The Centre plans to relocate 2,000 Assam Rifles personnel to Jammu due to an increase in terror attacks there in 2024. Kuki groups oppose this move. The Kuki Inpi, the apex body for Kuki groups, has submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister urging him to halt the replacement of Assam Rifles with CRPF in the hill districts. The local residents of Churachandpur, led by the Kuki Students’ Organization (KSO), held a candlelight vigil on Wednesday evening in Kangvai and Pholjang villages to protest the 'arbitrary attempt' to remove the Assam Rifles units.
