Canada Caught in the Crossfire: Trump's Influence on Trudeau's Canada

Published On: November 08, 2024 - President-elect Donald Trump’s imminent arrival in the White House signals trouble for the Justin Trudeau’s administration in Canada. The country's economy is sluggish. If Trump makes good his promise of flat 10 per cent tariffs, this would mean trade disputes and a potential recession since 75 per cent of Canada’s exports go to the United States. And adding to that are the frosty relations between Trudeau, Trump and Trump’s new best friend Elon Musk. Musk just tweeted that Trudeau’s days are numbered. This could be good news for New Delhi because under Trudeau, ties between India and Canada are the worst they have been with any western democracy in recent years.
