Published On: July 25, 2024 - Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on July 23 presented the Union Budget 2024-25. In her budget speech, she announced the scrapping of indexation benefits on sales of property. However, the government has attempted to offset this by lowering the long-term capital gains tax to 12.5% on the sale of property and other financial and non-financial assets from the earlier 20%. Sitharaman's announcement relating to the removal of indexation benefits has sparked a debate.
