Big Blow to Women: Hema Committee Report Stayed

Published On: July 25, 2024 - The Kerala HC has stayed the release of the Hema Committee Report. The Committee which was formed in 2017 by the Kerala govt to study issues of sexual harassment & gender inequality in Malayalam film industry had submitted its report in 2019. After much delay the report was to be released on July 24, but was halted after Malayalam film producer Parayil argued that the disclosure of the report could adversely affect the film industry. The Women in Cinema Collective organisation has said that it is not at all surprised by the stay, since resistance to the report has been a regular pattern in the industry.
